Pantone Color of the Year: Ultra Violet

By | Blog | No Comments

Pantone has announced the Color of the Year for 2018 is Ultra Violet! This purple hue is the perfect accent for any home, wardrobe, or picture. According to Pantone, Ultra Violet “communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future.”

Citing inspiration from pop icons such as David Bowie and Prince (featured below), Pantone states the color “symbolizes experimentation and non-conformity, spurring individuals to imagine their unique mark on the world, and push boundaries through creative outlets.”

Healing through Art

By | Blog | No Comments

Congratulations to Theresa Hurt, designer at our Britton Road location, for this great article! Not only does she create excellent frame designs, she’s an artist as well. Art is healing and therapeutic, as Theresa has shown.

We’re so glad she was able to find inspiration in hardship and that instead of allowing it to defeat her, she was able to find a new talent and way of expressing herself.

Oklahoma City Festival of the Arts Begins!

By | Blog | No Comments

Today is the start of the 51st annual Festival of the Arts here in downtown Oklahoma City. This six day event is something everyone looks forward to every year. As the Arts Council states:

The Festival of the Arts is a community celebration of the visual, performing and culinary arts, bringing a variety of talented artists together in downtown OKC’s Bicentennial Park. Festival has been an OKC tradition since 1967, considered a rite of spring and a signature event for the Arts Council, with an average of 750,000 Festival attendees.

Visual Arts

The Festival features 144 different artists, with styles ranging from traditional paintings to sculptures to jewelry to fiber art. The featured artist this year is Christopher Westfall. You can see a sample of his art on the 2017 Arts Festival posters! That piece is called “Starlight” and his inspiration is “the magical quality of Festival at twilight”. Christopher is just one of many talented artists that you can see throughout the Festival this year.

Performing Arts

Over the course of 6 days, on 3 different stages, the Festival boasts over 300 performers! Local elementary and high school students will show off their skills, as well as local musicians, bands, and dancers. Of particular interest is Science Live! a science demonstration Wednesday at 6pm on the Colcord stage. Where else can you see such a wide variety of performances?

Culinary Arts

Food brings everyone together. To showcase this, all of the food booths are partnered with arts organizations and museums from all over the state. These organizations provide volunteers to work the food booths, as well as show support for the arts in the state. Additionally, there are food demonstrations from local restaurants and chefs at the Culinary tent. Some staff favorite food picks are the Indian Tacos, Gyros, and Strawberries Newport. Whatever your tastes, there’s something for everyone!

Stop by the Festival to support the arts in our community. And, remember to bring your Arts Festival purchases to Pirates Alley for the perfect way to display your new treasures!
Visit the Arts Council website for more information about the Festival.

Welcome to our new website! We’ve finally made it into the 21st century and are super excited about our updated look. Also, we are really hyped about this blog feature! There are always fun things we want to talk about, but sometimes we’re too wordy for Facebook and 120 characters on Twitter is definitely not enough. So now we can share a lot more content with you guys thanks to our blog.

Here’s what you can expect from this blog:

  • Fun Facts
  • Tips and Tricks
  • Behind the scenes exclusives
  • Coverage of new product releases
  • Info about events happening in the area
  • Random things our employees find interesting

Our goal is to have fun and help shed some light on the mysterious world of picture framing. Also, this is a good way for us to chronicle the wild and wacky projects we work on, as well as showcasing the creative frame jobs our designers come up with.

Moving forward we hope to have official blog updates at least once a month, with little mini-blogs thrown in with more frequency. These mini-blogs will focus more on local events and interesting things that might not be picture frame related, but we think you’ll enjoy. We also appreciate questions, so if there is something about framing you would like to hear more on, feel free to ask!
